Two best Motorcycle rentals for beginners BMW F750GS vs Suzuki V-Strom 650

How many times have we been asked this question? Still, it is not an easy one to answer. There is a perfect motorcycle for everybody, but when it comes to long-distance travel or touring you want to be sure you have the best motorcycle to support you along the way; horsepower and size, comfort, and price. Do you really need to sacrifice any of that?

The best motorcycle to rent is always the one that suits YOU best. Be careful to include your experience and comfort while choosing a rental. If undecided, there is always Rent – a – GS lovely staff to help you.

Must it be either or?

Two of the most compared motorcycles in our fleet are BMW F750GS vs. SUZUKI V-STROM 650. Affordable and smaller motorcycles, both are best suited for new riders or beginners. Similar in specs, comparable by horsepower these motorcycles will provide an easy and fun adventure ride.

Rent a BMW F750GS

On the first hand, it has a bigger engine than V Strom, but that doesn’t mean it is a better-performing motorcycle. It has slightly less horsepower than its predecessor, which means the F 750 GS provides smoother and perhaps more beginner-friendly power delivery. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t feel the rush and adrenaline while accelerating. It’s a smaller motorcycle for a reason.

Spec-wise BMW F 750 GS has a lower center of gravity, thus easier to maneuver, mainly because the fuel tank is under the seat. It is a lighter motorcycle as well. It weighs 186 kg dry weight and 209 kg curb weight (wet weight), while the Suzuki goes for 194 kg dry weight and 220 kg curb weight.

This is why we highly recommend the BMW F 750 GS to smaller riders and beginners.

Rent a Suzuki V-Strom 650

The 650 V-Strom has a much smoother gearbox and much better weather protection for touring or highway riding. Should you rent a motorcycle in Croatia during an off-season, Spring, or late Autumn, Suzuki’s weather protection might come in handy with local rains and storms.

Both motorcycles come with side and top cases and phone holders included in the rental price.

It is worth mentioning that the 650 V Strom has a higher stock seat. Comfort is, in the end, a very deciding factor.

The bike with the best fuel economy is the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, which can travel around 83 km with 3.78541 liters of fuel. BMW F750GS, on the contrary, can travel around 78 km with the same amount of fuel. Also, Suzuki has a bigger fuel tank capacity. However, gas stations are positioned well in Croatia, so a couple of kilometers difference shouldn’t be a worrying factor here.

That being said, here is a motorcycle rental checklist you have to take into account before renting a motorcycle:

  1. Your experience:
If you are a beginner don’t let horsepower and size lead you into renting a bigger-sized motorcycle. Let the motorcycle touring be an enjoyable adventure, not torture.
  2. Duration of your touring trip
  3. Equipment needed:
Do you have all the additional gear? If not, Rent-a-GS can offer you the necessary items on the spot. See additional equipment list we can offer.
  4. Road preparation:
Wanderlust spirit is fun, we recommend checking the road ahead before you go. See our recommended motorcycle routes.
  5. Insurance:
